Classification of Russia’s Forests in Relation to Global Climate Warming

چکیده

This study involves investigating the sensitivity to temperature of Russia’s forest communities. Factors taken into consideration were mean annual temperature; standard deviation and temperature tolerance limits covering forests across the country. A new numerical classification of forest, related to predicted global climate warming (GCW) has been developed based on cluster analyses. New temperature-forest associations have been interpreted in order to develop a framework for the adaptation strategy to a predicted GCW. Quantitative parameters of the classification allow for the assessment of the magnitude, spatial and temporal dynamics of the GCW affect on forests. As a result, it is suggested that developed classification in forest inventory and management systems should be introduced in Russia.

Forests and climate change: forcings, feedbacks, and the climate benefits of forests.

The world's forests influence climate through physical, chemical, and biological processes that affect planetary energetics, the hydrologic cycle, and atmospheric composition. These complex and nonlinear forest-atmosphere interactions can dampen or amplify anthropogenic climate change. Tropical, temperate, and boreal reforestation and afforestation attenuate global warming through carbon seques...

An isoline separating relatively warm from relatively cool wintertime forest surface temperatures for the southeastern United States

a r t i c l e i n f o Forest-oriented climate mitigation policies promote forestation as a means to increase uptake of atmospheric carbon to counteract global warming. Some have pointed out that a carbon-centric forest policy may be overstated because it discounts biophysical aspects of the influence of forests on climate. In extra-tropical regions, many climate models have shown that forests t...

Effects of Global Climate Change on Biodiversity in Forests of the Southern United States

Climate has not been stable in the past. Fluctuations of pine (Pinus) pollen in a 50,000-year sequence from Lake Tulane in Florida indicate that major vegetation shifts occurred during the last glacial cycle. Phases of pollen dominated by pine (indicating a wet climate) were interspersed with periods with plentiful oak (Quercus), ragweed, and marsh elder (Ambrosia type) populations (Grimm et al...

Meat-eating: The Second Main Culprit of Climate Change

Background: Due to the greenhouse gases emission caused by human activities there is wide agreement about global warming. Methane is one of the most dangerous greenhouse gases in the global warming process which is produced through human activities and natural processes. In addition, the use of fertilizers and chemical pesticides would produce nitrogen monoxide in the atmosphere. This gas is an...

Climate Change Impacts on Forest Growth and Mortality

In 2016, 197 nations signed the Paris Agreement and committed to limiting global temperature rise well below 2 o C [1], thus making understanding the potential for forests to mitigate climate change more important than ever. It is clear that by implementing region-specific mitigation strategies the forest sector can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions [2]. However, while for...
